How to sell a car in Florida, step by step
- Fill in the Florida vehicle bill of sale template above with the buyer, and check the VIN against the title.
- Complete and sign the title transfer section with the buyer.
- Remove your license plate. In Florida the plate belongs to the seller, not the vehicle.
- Submit the Notice of Sale (HSMV 82050 or the section on the title) within 30 days.
- Keep a copy of this bill of sale and of HSMV 82050.
- Cancel or transfer your insurance after you surrender or transfer the plate.

Does Florida have an official bill of sale form?

Does a Florida bill of sale need to be notarized?
No. Florida does not require a vehicle bill of sale to be notarized.
Do I need to report the sale in Florida?
Yes. The seller completes the notice of sale, either on the back of the title or on form HSMV 82050, within 30 days. This removes your name from the vehicle record.
Does the license plate go with the car in Florida?
No. In Florida the plate belongs to the seller. Remove it before the buyer drives away, then transfer it to another vehicle or surrender it.
